Polish American Congress, Ohio Division http://catalog.wrhs.org/collections/view?docId=ead/MS4191.xml The Polish American Congress, Ohio Division, is part of the larger organization which was formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1944 with the purpose of securing Polish independence in Europe and improving the status of Polish-Americans in the United States. It opposed the Yalta and Potsdam agreements. The Ohio Division, which had branches in Toledo and Youngstown, as well as Cleveland, had a political action commission which endorsed candidates and aided Polish candidates, promoted Polish language classes, and started the observance of Polish Constitution Day on May 3rd. At one point, it had over 500 members. The collection consists of news releases, reports, bulletins, correspondence, and newspaper clippings. Much of the material relates to the visit by Bishop Julian Groblicki of Poland to Cleveland. This collection is useful to understanding some of the activities and political views of the Polish American Congress, particularly toward communist governments in Eastern Europe. http://catalog.wrhs.org/collections/view?docId=ead/MS4191.xml Wed, 01 Jan 2014 12:00:00 GMT
